I came across the Holstee Manifesto a few years ago and immediately fell in love with it. The words moved, touched, and inspired me as I felt a profound connection to each and every line. A few months passed before I came across it again. This time around, I printed it out and pinned it on my desk at work. I saw this everyday.
The Holstee Manifesto enabled me to wonder and reflect anytime I was “stuck.” I began to understand that life is really that simple and when you fully realize “this is your Life” and if you indeed “do what you love, and do it often,” then happiness and fulfillment is there for the taking.
I had been in IT for the last 13 years. It was safe and secure; I had a great job that appreciated yet I wasn’t in love with what I was doing. I wasn’t passionate about the role.
One evening at work before I went home, I turned to the Manifesto that was pinned on my wall, I read the line “If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit”.
I pondered this for a few days and after a discussion with my really supportive partner, I notified my manager and decided to go and pursue my passion in a totally different industry. This was in December 2011.
“Travel Often. Getting lost will help you find yourself”. Upon the completion of my contract, my partner and I went on a 9.5 weeks Round-the-World trip. We thought our traveling days were over, however we thought “Why not?!”. The 9.5 weeks of seeing more of the world expanded my senses and opened my heart to even more possibilities. Life truly is “about the people you meet and the things you create with them.” My life is rich from all of the amazing and heartfelt conversations—conversations about what is possible—about life, dreams and passions.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in design, I just never thought that I was good enough or talented enough. I remember reading the line “Life is Short. Live your dream and share your passion”. Once again, I thought “Why not? What do I have to loose?” We returned from our Round-the-World trip in late March 2012, and I’ve been working full time on my own headpiece label “Yummii & I” ever since. WIthin a span of 6 weeks, having invested all my passion, energy and love into this project, I am launching the label in 2 weeks.
I can definitely attribute these amazing milestones to Holstee’s Manifesto. I participated in the 2012 Sketchbook Project
and I used it as an opportunity to create my own Manifesto – a Manifesto for what I wanted my life to be about and what I stood for. Holstee’s Manifesto inspired me to create one for my life.
To this day I refer back to the Manifesto whenever I am “stuck” and the right words pop out to help me snap out of the doubts in my head.
The Holstee Manifesto now has a home on my fridge—I see it every morning. It is a great way to start the day and a great reminder that the fulfillment of life is in my own hands.
