A Lighthearted Poem on Appreciation

Appreciate
to a Frenchman
sounds like ‘après shit’
That moment of glory
right after the first coffee…

A feeling of lightness, clarity and understanding.

And so it is
with a linguistic twist
that I realized the importance
of appreciation…

I appreciate the cuts on my fingers
because I still have functioning hands

I appreciate the fights with my wife
because I live with the love of my life

I appreciate the spelling mistakes
because I received an education

To appreciate
is to increase the value
of the existing

It is slowing time
to take a moment
of realization

That life is always
a bit more beautiful
than we think we know

And when you appreciate
your own appreciation
you live in celebration
