The Meaning of Your Life

“Please try to remember that books aren’t always an escape; sometimes books teach us things. They show us the world; they don’t hide it.” — Sara Nisha Adams

The Holstee Book Club

One book each month, inspired by the themes of a meaningful life.

These twelve themes are how Holstee explores what it means to live well. They shape everything we make, and here, they guide what we read.

Read at your own pace, then join a warm, unhurried conversation inside our Circle community. Bring your questions, your perspectives, and your curiosity.

Book Club Themes

A year of reading with a shape.

Our year moves through twelve themes — the very same ones we explore in the Flourishing Life Course. Each book is chosen for its theme: to deepen, complicate, or make it personal — and carry it into your everyday life.

We read across all genres — memoir, fiction, non-fiction, even poetry — to explore each theme from every angle. Past reads have ranged from Becky Chambers' A Psalm for the Wild-Built to David Whyte's Consolations to Alfred Lansing's Endurance.

How It Works

Here's what a month looks like.

Read at your own pace all month, then come together for the conversation that makes it click.
Picks go out months in advance, so read now or read ahead.

The Pick Drops

Start of the Month

We announce the month's book. Grab a copy however you like: through our Bookshop.org shop, your local library, or your e-reader.

Read at Your Leisure

All Month Long

Ten minutes or ten hours, on your own schedule. Finished or not, you still belong.

We Meet Live

End of the Month

This is where the club really comes alive: a live video conversation where we go deep on the book together.

Keep It Going

Anytime

Share passages and thoughts on the message board whenever the mood strikes, before or after the meeting.

And there's no "behind." Join mid-book, read last spring's pick this fall, or come to the meeting without finishing — it all still counts.

This is reading for a fuller life, not a syllabus.

Author Conversations

Go beyond the page.

Join in for special live author talks — an hour together to explore the book, hear what inspired it, dig into its ideas, try a few of them out, and ask the author your own questions.

What readers are saying:

Jim Smith

PCC

I am an avid reader, but left to my own devices, I will often stick with the genres I'm already familiar with. What I love about the book club is that it challenges me to expand my horizons. Then when the community meets, we dive deeper into the characters and plot lines and talk about what surprised us, how we relate to the story and the characters, etc. I feel that I walk away from every meeting enriched. Plus, I usually pick up a few new titles for my “future reading” list!

Sarika Shankarnarayan

Executive & Life Coach/Mindfulness Mentor

In a world optimized for speed, Holstee creates space for depth. As a coach, I know the value of building spaces where people feel safe enough to think out loud-and this book club embodied exactly that. It was a privilege to host a group that showed up with genuine curiosity, listened generously, and engaged in conversations that lingered well beyond the pages of the book.

The Holstee Book Club has been an enriching part of my reading life for a few years now. Each month's book connects thoughtfully to Holstee's monthly themes such as Identity, resilience, gratitude and reflection. The discussions go far beyond plot into what these ideas actually mean for how we live. It's good to be part of a community that reads with so much heart and curiosity. I leave every session with new books to love and new ways of seeing the world.
