Each month, we are privileged to work with artists from all over the world. Their unique styles and points of view make for an especially diverse sense of inspiration in the art that arrives in our monthly Holstee Membership. This month, we got to work with the amazing artist Marco Oggian. Marco is a creative designer, photographer, and videomaker from Venice, Italy. He is currently traveling around the world making an independent documentary with his partner. We recently chatted with Marco about his art, life, and what pushes him to make the work that matters most to him. Q. Where is home for you? A. Everywhere I can find good spaces, energy, friends, and interesting things to do. I’m not so complicated. With my girlfriend, we transformed an old VW van in our home for some months. Q. What is your definition of a successful life? A. “Being the best one." Not the most famous or the highest-paid person in the world, just the best one in everything you do. Q. Describe your perfect day. A. The perfect day is when you wake up in a motor mechanic workshop in the middle of Brazil with no idea what is going on with your engine. The perfect day is the day you can learn something new and see something that you’ve never seen before. Q. How did you get into design? A. I don’t even remember! Since I was a kid I never stopped drawing. I really don't know the reason for this interest, maybe because with design I could reach things that did not exist yet; I could reach my dreams! I remember when I was seven, I spent afternoons drawing and my mother would go through big packs of paper each month! Q. Where do you find inspiration? A. I find inspiration in everything, especially in bad and negative things of the world like corruption, hate, racism, phobias in general— those kindS of things. Most of my latest work is pretty critical about the current situation. I also find inspiration in simplicity, when i’m not in an “against the system” mood :D Q. What's your dream design project? A. Being satisfied doing something useful. A. Which designers or thinkers influence/inspire you? Q. Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia and 1% for the Planet and of course, Fortunato Depero Q. What was the inspiration behind this design? A. Creativity is something positive. Simplicity, is the inspiration. This design is universal and for everyone — if it is not, it is arrogance. At the moment, what is your favorite … Color: Red Food: I don’t have one! I really enjoy everything I could try from all over the world. Song: Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
